WINEMAKING
Handpicked at the peak of the flavor development, the 2012 North Coast Cabernet Sauvingnon was crushed and cold soaked for 24 hours. The must was punched down daily to maximize flavor extraction during fermentation, followed by a 7-10 day extended maceration. The wine was matured in 50% new French oak barrels for 18 months. This long oak treatment creates firm structure and gravity in the wine, but with almost 2 months in bottle before release, it also demonstrates finesse.
SOURCING
Winemaker Wayne Donaldson sourced the grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon from premium wine growing regions throughout the North Coast, including Sonoma, Lake Mendocino, and Napa Counties. Lake County Cabernet and Merlot create that signature Josh style-bold and approachable-like the man who inspired this label. The Cabernet lots from Mendocino add balance and complexity, through the colder climate vineyards retain acidity and leaner fruit flavors. The additional lots of fruit from Napa and Sonoma Counties add body, complexity, and length. The diverse terroirs and climates of the North Coast create a deeply complex wine, kept in balance by an attentive wine making hand.
